Open-source contribution culture also helps to maintain the staff’s interest and passion: Owen Lansbury

Frontline Drupal development company PreviousNext has shared an insightful blog post. The post is based on a speech delivered by Owen Lansbury, Co-founder & Chairman of the company at Everything Open 2023. The post elaborates on the importance of a culture of open-source contribution in an organization.

Owen describes how such a culture nurtures positivity and confidence within the ranks of PreviousNext. Right from the time of onboarding, the company uses open-source contribution as a method. According to Owen, such an induction method encourages the new joiners to develop best practices in their coding.

Open-source contribution culture also helps to maintain the staff’s interest and passion, the article says. As part of the company’s policy, an employee can keep 20% of the work time for contribution. This brings a chance to build relationships and be mentored by people external to the organization.

According to Owen, open-source contributions should not be considered as a drain on the revenue generated by the firm. The firm will profit from the combined efforts to enhance the key technology ecosystem. Read the blog post to know more.
