DrupalCon Lille Seeks Mentors to Empower Contributors

The Drupal community thrives on the belief that "When one person teaches, two people learn." At DrupalCon Lille, taking place on October 20, 2023, this principle takes centre stage as the event seeks volunteers to step into mentoring roles. You don't need to be a coding expert to participate, making it an inclusive opportunity for everyone.

To get involved, all you need to do is join the #mentoring Slack channel and engage in the pre-event meetings leading up to DrupalCon Lille. The mission is clear: DrupalCon Lille is on the lookout for dedicated mentors who can guide and inspire new contributors during the Mentored Core Contribution event set to unfold in the "Contribution Lounge" space.

Traditionally, Mentored Core Contribution sessions are held in a spacious room adorned with round tables, fostering collaboration among participants who bring their laptops and knowledge to the table. Each mentor will work closely with a small group of 3 to 6 individuals seated at a table. Safety is a priority, with the organizers encouraging mask-wearing and providing masks for everyone's convenience.

The beauty of mentoring in the Drupal community is that it transcends coding. Non-coding contribution opportunities are also available for those who are new to Drupal. These include contributing to initiatives like Project Browser, participating in Bug Smash events, working on documentation, diving into UX/UI and accessibility testing, showcasing design talents, and more.

Mentoring Events Schedule:

Mentors may also assist new contributors in setting up their development environments, finding suitable tasks, collaborating with fellow contributors, and resolving issues. To prepare mentors for this rewarding experience, two Mentor Orientations and an Issue Queue triage session are scheduled during the week. Participation in these sessions is highly encouraged.

DrupalCon Lille welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds and levels of expertise to become mentors and support the Drupal community's growth. For more details, visit the DrupalCon Lille website to get started on this empowering journey.
