Drupal 9 has officially reached its end of life as of November 1st, 2023, marking the closure of further releases for this version, writes Tim Hestenes Lehnen in his latest blog post.

The end of life for Drupal 9 is largely attributed to the impending expiration of various supporting software projects it relies on, such as Symfony 4, CKEditor 4, and Twig 2, which are all reaching their end-of-life stages. This shift prompts essential changes for Drupal-contributed projects, with the cessation of DrupalCI support for Drupal 9's automated testing platform and the tagging of unsupported release branches for projects exclusively supporting Drupal 9.

Acknowledging the collaborative efforts behind Drupal 9's creation and maintenance, the community expresses gratitude to all contributors. This transition signifies a crucial juncture for site owners and maintainers of contributed projects, prompting an imperative shift towards Drupal 10-compatible releases.

Site owners are encouraged by the author to refer to the documentation detailing the update process to Drupal 10. For maintainers of contributed projects, the emphasis is on assessing the compatibility of their projects with Drupal 10 and updating them as necessary.

Projects already compatible with Drupal 10 but lacking stable releases are advised to tag a release to ensure a seamless upgrade path for users, preferably opting for minor releases that support both Drupal 9 and 10.

As Drupal evolves, this transition marks an essential phase for website owners and project maintainers to adapt and ensure compatibility with the latest Drupal 10 version. The prompt action in migrating to Drupal 10-compatible releases is crucial for maintaining site security, stability, and alignment with the evolving Drupal platform.
