Exploring the Starshot Prototype: WebAssembly Trial Experience for Drupal
Matt Glaman recently shared insights into developing a trial experience for the Starshot prototype, part of a Drupal initiative leveraging WebAssembly. The project, started as a personal interest, now includes a three-phase plan: evaluating and implementing a trial experience, enabling export to local hosts, and facilitating transitions to hosting providers.
The first phase is nearly complete, with future plans to host the trial on Drupal.org and improve export functionality for local environments. Issues with Safari compatibility and 32-bit integer limitations are ongoing challenges. Challenges remain, such as enabling SQLite database exports and addressing compatibility with hosting environments like DDEV. Future phases will focus on integrating with hosting providers and enhancing php-wasm functionality, including Safari support and enabling OPcache. This initiative aims to streamline the user experience for evaluating and transitioning Drupal sites.
