Drupal 11: Key Features and Upgrade Recommendations
On August 8, 2024, Drupal 11 was officially released, and Plethora shared a blog post titled "Drupal 11 is Out – What This Means for Drupal Site Owners," highlighting the significant new features for site owners. The release includes "Recipes," which allow for the application of complex configurations, "Workspaces," offering a robust content staging workflow directly on production sites, and "Single-Directory Components," designed to simplify front-end development.
Although Drupal 10 will continue to receive long-term support until Drupal 12's release in 2026, many popular modules already have Drupal 11 versions, making the transition feasible for many users. With Drupal 8 and 9 no longer supported, sites on these versions should urgently upgrade to Drupal 10 or 11, as the upgrade from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9 is notably challenging. Drupal 7 will receive long-term support only until January 5, 2025, after which it will no longer receive security updates, making it imperative for users to upgrade soon.
