Cambridge University Press Enhances Drupal Team with Community-Driven Development
Comment

Cambridge University Press & Assessment has launched a strategic initiative to boost the skills and expertise of its in-house Drupal development team in the Philippines, led by seasoned developer Rachel Lawson. This effort focuses on community-driven development, integrating the team into the global Drupal network to foster learning and collaboration. One key component is the introduction of peer code reviews, modeled after Drupal’s Core Gates system, to enhance code quality and ensure best practices in documentation. Rachel has also implemented internal activities like Drupal trivia quizzes to make learning more engaging and foster healthy competition.

The team is further expanding its experience by working on simpler, short-term projects, which diversify their skill set beyond the complexities of their primary assignment. Additionally, Rachel has prioritized connecting the team with the wider Drupal community. The team will participate in DrupalCon Singapore 2024, where they will have the opportunity to network with top Drupal professionals and take part in the Mentored Contribution Day. This hands-on learning experience is expected to deepen their understanding of Drupal’s collaborative development process and strengthen their support network.

Addressing the ongoing challenge of recruiting Drupal developers in the Philippines, Rachel aims to make Cambridge University Press & Assessment a desirable destination for Drupal talent by showcasing the team’s engagement and contributions within the community. By increasing visibility in the Drupal ecosystem, the initiative seeks to position the organization as a leader in Drupal development within the region. Alongside these efforts, the initiative also includes traditional learning resources, such as access to Drupalize.me, in-person training sessions, and relevant books to support ongoing professional development.
