Drupal Consultant Chris Kelly Creates Custom Travel Gallery Solution

Drupal consultant Chris Kelly has developed a customized solution for creating travel galleries after finding current Drupal modules inadequate for his needs. Chris, an experienced contributor to Drupal’s core and module ecosystem, aimed to streamline image organization and selection through a more intuitive user interface. His design features a scrollable carousel of thumbnails where users can enlarge, select, and add details to images—features unavailable in existing modules, which he found cumbersome or unintuitive.

To address this, Chris built a form that organizes uploaded images based on metadata, placing them in directories named by trip details and tagged by date and location. He also addressed the Photoswipe module’s incompatibility with mixed media by creating separate fields for videos. While the form is too customized for general use, Chris suggested there may be demand for similar solutions across Drupal and WordPress, potentially signalling an opportunity for gallery tools tailored to travel or content-heavy sites.
