5 Varnish features that will improve the caching of your Drupal site
Thijs Feryn, a Technical Evangelist at Varnish Software is gearing up for his third DrupalCon as a speaker at DrupalCon Singapore 2024. It will be also the sixth DrupalCon he is attending in total.
Thijs' session, “5 Varnish Features to Supercharge Your Drupal Full Page Caching Strategy,” will explore five advanced features of Varnish Software's commercial offerings. These include end-to-end TLS encryption, dynamic memory management, dynamic backends, efficient tag-based invalidation with soft purge support, and easy-to-use URL and header customization—designed to enhance the performance, flexibility, and simplicity of full-page caching in Drupal.
He also adds,
"Varnish Software is no stranger to engaging with the Drupal community. Our technology has been used in Drupal for ages, and most of the big Drupal sites, Drupal platforms, and Drupal agencies have used Varnish at some point in time. While we’ve always been there, this time our presence is a bit more obvious, due to our sponsorship of Drupalcon Singapore."
What, Why, and When for Recipes & Distributions with Starshot
Abhisek Mazumdar’s session, “What, Why, and When for Recipes & Distributions with Starshot,” explores the distinctions and use cases of Drupal distributions and recipes in the context of the Starshot initiative. The session focuses on defining distributions and recipes, explaining their benefits and advantages, and discussing the scenarios in which each is best utilized.
"I’m thrilled to be part of DrupalCon Singapore and to share insights from my session on Drupal distributions and recipes, particularly in the context of the Starshot initiative. As the Starshot initiative gains traction, it’s crucial for developers to understand the distinctions and appropriate use cases for both distributions and recipes."
Abhisek shares. He will explain when to use a profile or distribution and when to use recipes. The key points will focus on what they are, why to use them, and when to apply each. There will be demonstrations and use cases to illustrate how profiles and distributions have limitations and how recipes can be beneficial. He will also highlight some scenarios where profiles and distributions are particularly useful.
Since he started working with Drupal, it was the goal of Abhisek to speak at a DrupalCon; now that ambition is nearing fulfilment that too in the first DrupalCon he is attending, he shares,
"I feel truly honoured to have been given this opportunity to share my knowledge with the community. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Dropsolid for sponsoring part of my trip."
Beyond his own session and the glory of the amazing DrupalCon, Abhisek is also looking to have quality interactions and attend several sessions of importance.
"I’m particularly looking forward to sessions that discuss the bright future of Drupal, especially topics around Starshot, such as the session by Gabor and Tim titled "Building the Future of Drupal: 11, 12, and Starshot." Beyond the sessions, I’m excited to meet the global Drupal community for the very first time and to make valuable connections."
