Drupal CMS 1.0: A Key Step in Drupal’s Evolving Strategy
Kaido Jõesaar, writing for Trinidad Wiseman, reports on the launch of Drupal CMS 1.0, a major milestone in the Drupal ecosystem, as part of the Drupal Starshot initiative led by Dries Buytaert. The new version aims to address long-standing concerns about Drupal's complexity by providing a more user-friendly and accessible platform. While Drupal Core remains available for highly customized solutions, Drupal CMS offers a ready-to-use product with built-in tools such as advanced media management, SEO functionalities, AI-powered content creation, consent management, analytics, and an improved user interface.
The initiative introduces Drupal Recipes, a collection of 30 pre-configured features to accelerate website deployment, with more available through the Project Browser. Looking ahead, the Experience Builder, set for release in late 2025, will unify existing UI tools, simplifying content management. The launch of Drupal CMS 1.0 coincided with the end-of-life of Drupal 7, marking a strategic shift toward broader adoption.
By integrating AI-driven administrative support and personalized dashboards, Drupal CMS is designed to support marketers, designers, and content creators while maintaining Drupal’s flexibility and scalability. Organizations can now choose between Drupal Core for custom solutions and Drupal CMS for quicker deployment, both remaining open-source and adaptable to evolving business needs.
