University of Oregon Libraries Website Redesign Improves Navigation and Accessibility
Evolving Web collaborated with the University of Oregon Libraries to redesign its website, aligning it with the university’s brand standards and improving navigation, accessibility, and usability without disrupting its core functionality. The project included an upgraded Drupal CMS, enhancements to information architecture based on user research, and compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.
Key improvements involved integrating UO’s “Marketing page” with new components, streamlining Open Hours updates, enhancing media management through Drupal’s Media Library, updating the WYSIWYG editor, and customizing features for Room Bookings and Events. Challenges included maintaining compatibility with UO’s Cosmic theme, addressing embedded HTML content issues, and ensuring long-term maintainability. The redesign resulted in a more user-friendly and cohesive experience, empowering content editors with reusable components while preserving essential functionalities. Kate Conley, Editorial Content and Communications Specialist at UO Libraries, acknowledged Evolving Web’s role in the project’s success.
