Bacalhau Blog Introduces New Bluesky Bot for Automatic Alt-Text Generation
In a recent blog post, the Bacalhau team unveiled a new Bluesky bot designed to generate automatic alt-text for images, aiming to improve accessibility across the platform. Building on the success of their earlier Bluesky integrations—including distributed job execution and image classification—the new bot uses Bacalhau’s decentralized compute network and the LLaVa Large Vision Model (LVM) to produce descriptive image captions.
Users can activate the bot by replying to any Bluesky post with `@alt-text.bots.bacalhau.org`. The bot retrieves the image, runs it through Bacalhau’s network via GPU-enabled nodes, and responds with generated alt-text. The process is fully automated and backed by Expanso Cloud.
The blog highlights the need for better accessibility tools, noting that many images online still lack alt-text. While human-written descriptions remain the gold standard, the bot offers a scalable solution to bridge the gap and make the visual web more inclusive.
