Drupal CMS Desktop App Announced at DrupalCon Atlanta 2025
"Drupal CMS 1.0 is a milestone, not a finish line"
said Dries Buytaert during Driesnote at DrupalCon Atlanta 2025. He also charted a roadmap for Drupal CMS that involves four main points;

- Onboarding
- Marketing
- Experience Building
- AI Framework
During the roadmap discussion, Dries primarily addressed ongoing challenges users face when installing Drupal CMS. To streamline the onboarding experience, the community introduced a new open-source desktop app designed to simplify setup for new users.
Gábor Hojtsy, Drupal CMS Contribution Coordinator, presented the app during the keynote. The application allows users to install and run Drupal CMS with minimal technical setup. It supports macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows and packages everything needed to run Drupal locally. On the first launch, it handles installation via Composer in the background. Users can then launch their Drupal CMS site with a single click and pick their preferred features. The app stores files and data locally, allowing users to continue where they left off.
Gábor noted that while the app is not yet available on drupal.org, it can be downloaded from GitHub. A dedicated download page on Drupal’s official site is expected to launch in the coming weeks.
The desktop app complements the existing trial experience that lets users explore Drupal CMS without installation. Both options are aimed at reducing friction for new users and encouraging broader adoption.
