Experience Builder 1.0 Planned for DrupalCon Vienna with Drupal CMS 2.0
DrupalCon Atlanta 2025 featured a comprehensive update on Experience Builder, one of the most actively developed initiatives in the Drupal ecosystem. Presented during the Driesnote by Drupal Founder Dries Buytaert and developer Balint Kleri, the session focused on features currently available in the alpha version and what’s planned ahead.
Experience Builder is designed to simplify the content editing process for marketers and site builders while offering modern tooling for front-end developers. The tool is available now in alpha and can be tested through a GitHub demo project. It includes features such as:
- Multi-page editing with automatic draft saving
- Reusable content sections that can be placed across different pages
- Visual editing of global regions like headers and footers
- Version tracking and publishing workflows for both page-level and global changes
For developers, Experience Builder now supports three methods for creating components:
- Traditional Drupal blocks
- Single Directory Components (SDCs) with Twig and YAML
- A new in-browser JavaScript editor that allows building React components with Tailwind CSS and live preview—without needing to set up a local development environment
“This was real and you can try it today,” Dries said, referring to the demo project. He emphasized that even users with no Drupal background can begin creating custom components through the browser-based editor.

Experience Builder is currently in active development and targeted for a full 1.0 release by DrupalCon Vienna, alongside the release of Drupal CMS 2.0.
