Drupal Launches Marketplace Initiative and Seeks Community Feedback

Drupal has launched the Marketplace Initiative, a focused effort to evaluate whether the project should introduce a public marketplace for reusable site templates. The announcement follows Dries Buytaert’s keynote at DrupalCon Atlanta, where he confirmed that Drupal plans to ship site templates in 2025 and invited the community to explore the idea of a dedicated marketplace.

The proposed marketplace would offer a curated space to browse, share, and contribute templates helping users build Drupal sites faster and more easily. It aims to lower the barrier for new users while giving contributors and agencies a clear, rewarding way to add value.

A working group made up of Drupal Starshot leadership, Drupal Association staff, board members, and community representatives is leading the initiative. Their task is to explore the opportunity, engage stakeholders, and make a recommendation—go or no-go—by DrupalCon Vienna 2025.

The process is open to all and designed to be iterative and inclusive. Feedback is being gathered through weekly Slack prompts, live community sessions, and targeted surveys. The team meets every two to three weeks to review input and share updates.

The first survey, “Shaping the Drupal Marketplace: Contributor Perspectives,” is now live. Aimed at agencies, individual contributors, and Drupal Certified Partners, it focuses on what would make the marketplace useful and worth contributing to. The survey can be taken at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/shaping-the-drupal-marketplace-contributor-perspectives.

Community members can also reply to the current Slack prompt—“What would make the Drupal Marketplace useful to you?”—in the #drupal-cms-marketplace channel at https://drupal.slack.com/archives/C08KBLV8EE8/p1744661674800089

Volunteers are welcome. No technical background is required, and help is needed with outreach, facilitation, writing, and research. Those interested can sign up at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdtmFCEdLoMPUOeZrMXsNWFa2ENfjOfGnEaBhT4xis-iHJufw/viewform
