DrupalCamp Burkina Faso 2025: Igniting Africa’s Digital Future Through Community and Code
The Drupal Burkina Faso Association is set to host the second edition of DrupalCamp Burkina Faso 2025 on April 25–26, 2025, aiming to accelerate the growth of the Drupal community across Africa and strengthen the continent’s digital capabilities.
The Drop Times spoke to Seferiba Salif Soulama, CEO of Elan Technology and the lead organizer of the camp, about the ideas that shape the community in Africa. He shared with us, the excitement and hurdles faced in organizing the event.
"The main objective of DrupalCamp Burkina Faso 2025 is to promote the adoption and innovation around Drupal as a key tool to support the digital transition, strengthen technological sovereignty, and develop the skills of developers in Burkina Faso,"
says Seferiba Salif Soulama
In the short term, Soulama sees the event as a crucial push to popularize Drupal. But his vision goes further. "In the long term, DrupalCamp Burkina will be the main reference tech conference in Africa promoting Drupal," he says.
This year’s camp will feature sessions on setting up development environments, an overview of Drupal CMS, Drupal and AI, and Drupal Workspace training. Networking opportunities will also be a core focus, building bridges among developers, designers, and tech leaders from across the region.
Organizing the event, however, has not been without obstacles.
"The biggest challenge we faced is how to get sponsors," Soulama admits. "We have not overcome this totally. But we keep hoping to get some sponsors."
Still, community strength has been a cornerstone. A team of 21 volunteers, along with technical and financial support from the Drupal Association, has helped bring the camp to life. Soulama credits individuals like Tim Doyle, Tim Lehnen, and Joi Garrett for their essential contributions.
The state of the Drupal community in Burkina Faso and across Africa is promising but faces hurdles. "The Drupal community in Burkina Faso is young and active," Soulama says. "We can say that we are the most active Drupal community in French-speaking Africa."
Yet he acknowledges gaps, notably the lack of collaboration between local communities and limited integration with the broader international Drupal network.
"The language barrier and other factors have slowed us down, but initiatives like DrupalCamp are helping to change that."
Soulama believes Drupal has enormous potential to drive digital development across Africa, but success will depend on investment and local leadership.
"Drupal can be a valuable tool for digital development on the African continent, if and only if Drupal International agrees to invest in promoting Drupal in Africa," he says. "And there is no better channel than local Drupal communities and their ambassadors."

He sees DrupalCamp not just as an event, but as a movement.
"Organising a DrupalCamp in Africa like the one in Ouagadougou is a good, visible, and audible example of activities that will positively impact the promotion and development of Drupal in Africa."
For first-time attendees, Soulama’s hopes are high.
"I hope that young developers and first-time attendees will leave DrupalCamp Ouagadougou 2025 feeling galvanized, with the necessary foundations to continue their personal training and equipped to contribute to the development of Drupal and the Drupal community in Africa."
Looking beyond 2025, the Drupal Burkina Faso Association plans to sustain momentum with meetups, training programs, and a bold new goal: hosting DrupalCon Ouagadougou in 2027, the first DrupalCon in Africa.
"Our priority after DrupalCamp 2025 is to take stock, implement a follow-up program, and prepare for even bigger initiatives,"
Soulama says.
When asked what support would be most valuable moving forward, Soulama is clear:
"At the local level, we need institutional support from our Ministry of Digital Transition. Internationally, I hope the Drupal Association will ratify the formalization of Drupal Africa. I am available to work in this direction for better Drupal development and penetration in Africa."
