FreePress.net Rebuilt on Drupal 10 With CKEditor and ActionKit Integration
DevCollaborative rebuilt Free Press’s Drupal 10 site using core best-practices architecture, replacing bespoke PHP to simplify block placement and Views creation. They migrated all content into a clean, maintainable codebase and partnered with Theory One on a refreshed design system that modernizes the site’s look and feel.
The new editor experience leverages CKEditor plugins, including accordions, charts, entity embeds, and footnotes—allowing staff to build rich storytelling pages. Editors now enjoy significantly more flexibility and speed when assembling content. A custom Google Docs extension exports approved drafts into clean HTML with footnote markup, dramatically reducing time from internal approval to publication.
DevCollab built a deep Drupal–ActionKit integration that embeds petitions and email-the-FCC forms inline on freepress.net, eliminating clumsy external redirects. This integration enhances donor and petition conversions by keeping supporters on-site, thereby increasing engagement. Since the April 9 launch, traffic and engagement metrics have increased, although external events may also have contributed to these gains.
