Drupal 10 End-of-Life Set for 9 December 2026, Upgrade to Drupal 11 Encouraged
Drupal 10 will reach end of life on 9 December 2026, ending official security support for the release. In a recent post, Marilyn Young outlines why organisations should begin planning staged upgrades to Drupal 11 or later to maintain security coverage and platform stability. Sites still running Drupal 7, 8 or 9 are already unsupported.
Young emphasises that major Drupal upgrades must be handled sequentially rather than skipped across versions. Organisations are encouraged to audit their current installation, review contributed modules and custom code, and assess compatibility using tools such as the Upgrade Status module. A phased migration approach reduces breakage risk and allows for structured testing at each stage.
Beyond security coverage, newer Drupal versions introduce performance improvements, modernised administrative interfaces and stronger accessibility compliance. Updated PHP support, caching enhancements and core optimisations contribute to improved speed and reliability, while refreshed themes and editorial tools streamline content management workflows.
The post frames upgrading as both a technical requirement and a long-term strategic decision. Remaining on supported releases enables smoother future upgrades, reduces accumulated technical debt and positions organisations for scalability within the evolving Drupal ecosystem.
