WebWash Live Stream Explores UI Suite and Display Builder Workflows
A recent WebWash live stream featured Ivan Zugec demonstrating workflows built with Display Builder and UI Suite DaisyUI within Drupal’s Single Directory Components (SDC) system. The session was subsequently recapped on the UI Suite Initiative’s official blog by Michael Fanini.
UI Suite is a community-led initiative that develops a collection of interoperable tools designed to enhance Drupal’s theming and site-building capabilities. In the live session, Ivan walked through installation requirements, including the temporary need for a development version of UI Patterns to run the latest Display Builder release at the time of recording.
The demonstration included generating a sub-theme, compiling Tailwind CSS assets with Vite, and working through Display Builder’s visual interface. Ivan showcased component libraries, structural layout layers, and the mapping of Drupal fields to SDC props and slots.
Practical examples illustrated how Display Builder can replace traditional block placement with structured layouts, apply visibility conditions for contextual rendering, and customise entity displays using reusable Hero and Card components.
Integration with Views was also demonstrated through configuration of responsive grid layouts using UI Patterns, avoiding custom CSS. A real-time collaboration test followed, with layout changes synchronising across two browser windows using HTMX on the backend.
During the session, Ivan compared Display Builder with other layout-focused tools, distinguishing between landing page builders and tools intended for broader structural control across Drupal sites.
In his recap, Michael Fanini highlighted the significance of independent community coverage and acknowledged the continued collaboration around UI Suite’s development.
The full recording is available on the WebWash YouTube channel. The written recap can be read on the UI Suite Initiative website.
