Drupal Association Welcomes Acquia Fair Trade Initiative for Sustainable Funding
Acquia’s Fair Trade Initiative will direct 2% of eligible Drupal deals closed through the Acquia Partner Program to the Drupal Association. In an announcement published on 2 June 2026, the Association said the model is intended to connect Drupal’s commercial activity with recurring support for the project’s shared infrastructure and community programmes.
According to the Drupal Association, the contribution is funded entirely from Acquia’s margin and does not add cost for end customers or reduce partner revenue and incentives. The funding will support Drupal.org infrastructure, security-related work, global events, community programmes, and operational support for the Drupal Security Team. The model differs from conventional sponsorship by embedding the contribution into eligible partner transactions rather than relying only on separate voluntary funding.
Participating partners will receive Capital Contribution credit through the Drupal Association’s Certified Partner Program. The Drupal Association said contributions will be tracked and credited in the partner’s name within the Acquia Partner Portal, linking eligible commercial transactions to public recognition in the Drupal ecosystem. The announcement frames the initiative as a funding mechanism that can scale as Acquia partner activity around Drupal grows.
