Why Delaying Migration from Drupal 7 or 8 is a Risk
The latest version of Drupal was released in December. With the arrival of Drupal 10, organizations are now required to consider migrating from Drupal 7 or 8. Drupal 7 is fast approaching its End of Life (EOL) in November. Drupal 8 has already reached its EoL in November 2021. A blog post by Unimity Solutions explains the ill effects of delaying the migration to the latest versions.
When a version reaches End of Life, that means it won’t get further updates. This also means the users won’t get security updates anymore. Without the necessary security patches, the website could be at risk of data breaches.
Apart from that, there are various other reasons why one should not delay the migration. A golden opportunity to get ahead of the competitors is lost by postponing the update. Apart from that, when a version becomes outdated, third-party modules and themes will likely stop supporting it. This can lead to many compatibility issues. The blog post also cites Technical Debt, Difficulty of Migration, and Lack of Support as other reasons. Click here to read it and learn more.
