Evolving Web's Successful Drupal Migration for INSPQ
Evolving Web recently wrapped up a transformative project with the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ), migrating their site from Drupal 7 to the latest version of Drupal. The goal was to create a more modern interface, providing users a refreshed and enhanced experience.
INSPQ, established by the Government of Québec in 1998, serves as a vital research hub, knowledge broker, and reference center for matters related to public health. Offering expertise, laboratory services, and screenings, INSPQ supports Québec's Minister of Health and Social Services, regional public health authorities, and health institutions.
Initially tasked with upgrading the site from Drupal 7, Evolving Web's project scope expanded to include a comprehensive UX/UI redesign. The decade-old site posed navigation challenges and lacked full responsiveness, prompting a strategic overhaul.
The project's sheer scale was formidable, involving the migration of over 30,000 pages. Faced with this challenge, Evolving Web strategically recommended changes, opting for migration scripts entirely in code to ensure efficiency. The migration covered content, files, taxonomies, and menu items.
One of the primary challenges was the site's deep navigation structure, with over six levels, and text-heavy content. Evolving Web successfully migrated over 30,000 pages, 30 content types, 500 fields, 500 contexts, 300 views displays, and 21,000 files.
Beyond migration, the team focused on a visual redesign, addressing the original site's text-heavy nature and branding inconsistencies. The result is an improved user experience in navigation, information architecture, search functionality, page structure, and accessibility. Evolving Web also elevated the UI and expanded components for a more dynamic and engaging website.
