Drupal Now Powers 100 Councils, Leads CMS Rankings in UK and Ireland

Digital Health Check’s latest update to the LocalGov CMS Directory shows that Drupal now powers 100 local councils across the UK and Ireland, with 59 of them running the LocalGov Drupal distribution. This marks continued growth for Drupal in the public sector, making it the most widely used CMS among councils—followed by Jadu, Umbraco, GOSS iCM, Contensis, and WordPress.

For the first time, CMS usage is ranked by council type, prompted by the UK government’s plans to restructure two-tier councils into unitary authorities. Drupal ranks first in 7 out of 10 council categories, including English Unitary, London Boroughs, Scottish and Irish councils. This breakdown could guide future reorganised councils in selecting widely supported, open-source platforms with established adoption across the sector.
