Project Browser Extensions Broaden Drupal Discovery Beyond Built-In Sources

Site builders now have a Project Browser source for Drupal Commerce integrations on Packagist following the 7 August 2026 alpha release of Commerce Project Browser. According to its Drupal.org project page, the extension discovers Commerce integrations by category, including packages not already available in a site's codebase. Drupal.org lists Centarro as supporting initial development and maintenance, while marking the project as minimally maintained and outside Drupal's security advisory policy.

The release provides a current example of contributed projects extending Project Browser beyond the sources distributed with the module. Project Browser currently includes sources for contributed modules from Drupal.org, recipes already present in the site's codebase, and Drupal core modules, with the core source disabled by default. Drupal's Project Browser documentation also provides an example source plugin for developers creating additional catalogues.

Project Browser Extra Recipes extends the local-recipe model by scanning recipe locations for directories beginning with extra_ and exposing them through Project Browser. It reads metadata from recipe.yml and composer.json when available, and its stable 1.0.2 release from 4 March 2026 is covered by Drupal's security advisory policy. The module does not provide an external repository; it surfaces private or site-specific recipes already present in the codebase. Project Browser documentation distinguishes that workflow from module or theme installation because a recipe present in the codebase is applied to a site rather than installed as an extension. Project Browser API Browser, by contrast, can turn configurable external JSON APIs into source plugins, including a documented Packagist example for packages of type drupal-recipe; its 2.0.0-beta1 release was published on 2 August 2026, and the project currently has no supported stable release.

Project Browser Gitlab provides another source model for projects from a configured GitLab instance, but its project page describes installation from that source as future functionality and lists no supported stable release. Drupal's Recipes Cookbook, updated on 16 July 2026, separately points users to Packagist and GitHub as places to find Drupal recipes. Together, the projects show how Project Browser can provide a common discovery interface for sources with different origins and purposes. What a source can install or apply, how actively it is maintained, and whether a release has security advisory coverage remain properties of the individual project rather than guarantees provided by the shared interface.
