Drupal 10 will go live on December 14, 2022. The scheduled release that was to happen last August had been postponed to December owing to some critical issues that need to be solved for CKEditor 5 to be stable.

According to the Drupal Community, with the December release, the strategic requirements can be completed on time, including updating Drupal core’s JavaScript dependencies to the major version. From version 8.x, Drupal has been tied to the release cycles of Symfony PHP framework that help ease some burden for the core developers. By Drupal 10’s release, the Symfony version will progress from 6.0 to 6.2, including improvements and bug fixes.

The following key features are included in the updated Drupal 10:

  • Claro administration theme (replacing seven)
  • Olivero Default theme (replacing Bartik)
  • Introduction of CKEditor with better authoring experience and more modern editor (replacing CKEditor 4)
  • Modern JavaScript components to replace some uses of jQuery
  • Theme Starterkit tools for bespoke theme creation.
  • Symfony 6 under the hood (replacing Symfony 4) and PHP 8.1 are required to keep the system secure.

The Drupal10 team holds a meeting every other Monday at 18:00 UTC on DrupalSlack. Stay tuned throughout the month for more updates and information leading up to the 14-December release date.
