Promoting Open Web is Need of the Hour: Dries Buytaert
Opensource.com has published a new blog post written by Dries Buytaert, the founder of Drupal. The post is titled ‘Preserving the open web through Drupal.’ As the title points out, Dries fervently argues for an open web and Drupal. Dries’ article comes a few days after Drupal was designated a Digital Public Good.
In the introduction, he reiterates the points raised during last year’s keynote address at DrupalCon, Prague. Dries clarifies why he prefers to upload his photos on his website rather than other proprietary platforms. The reasons are pretty well known. Proprietary platforms do not let us own our data, nor do they promote creativity. Thirdly, they ruthlessly track and breach the privacy of their users.
According to Dries, good software is open, flexible, pro-privacy, secure, and doesn’t lock you in. It lets the user control their code. Drupal, with its inherent composability and freedom, represents all the goodness of the open web. The latest version, Drupal 10, has added more feathers to Drupal. It has modernized the front-end and back-end experiences.
Drupal 10 arrives at a time when the world thoughtfully discusses the malpractices of top social networking sites. Dries says it reminds us that preserving and promoting an open web is more important than ever. Read the blog post to dive deeper into the Drupal Founder’s words.
