Automattic Donates €20,000 to Fuel Drupal Gutenberg Development
Automattic, the parent company of WordPress, has generously donated €20,000 to support the next phase of development for Drupal Gutenberg, a module created by Norway-based agency Frontkom. This significant contribution aims to propel the advancement of Drupal Gutenberg and foster collaboration between the WordPress and Drupal communities.
The donation comes as part of the DrupalCon Pitchburgh innovation contest, where the Drupal Gutenberg module emerged as one of the five selected projects out of 35 proposals. The winners were announced during Dries Buytaert's State of Drupal presentation at DrupalCon Pittsburgh 2023, amplifying the module's recognition and potential impact.
With over 3,000 Drupal websites already utilizing the Drupal Gutenberg module, its importance in streamlining website development cannot be overstated. Frontkom, a 120-person agency, exclusively incorporates the module when constructing Drupal sites for their clients, emphasizing its reliability and effectiveness.
The funds provided by Automattic will be utilized to take the Drupal Gutenberg project to new heights. Specifically, an in-person workshop spanning several days will be organized, bringing together members from the WordPress core team, the Drupal core team, and the Drupal Gutenberg team. This collaboration will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise, leveraging the insights of those who have built the WordPress editor and the Drupal core team's understanding of admin initiatives and possibilities.
