Drupal Community Enhances Safety with Code of Conduct Contact Training

In the ever-evolving digital landscape, fostering an inclusive and safe environment within the Drupal community is a paramount priority. The Drupal Community Working Group, in a proactive stride, has joined forces with Otter Tech to provide live, monthly online training sessions on Code of Conduct incident response. This initiative underscores the commitment to ensuring the Drupal ecosystem remains a haven for all, transcending beyond coding contributions.

Upcoming workshops:

Wednesday, October 18, 2023 – 9 am to 1 pm PT (USA) (4 pm to 8 pm UTC)
Wednesday, November 8, 2023 – 9 am to 1 pm PT (USA) (5 pm to 9 pm UTC)

For those passionate about community engagement and eager to contribute beyond traditional coding realms, becoming a Code of Conduct contact for Drupal events offers a vital avenue. The role of a Code of Conduct contact extends beyond the virtual realm, resonating within in-person events as well. These contacts serve as pillars of support, ready to take incident reports and collaborate with event organizers in addressing potential Code of Conduct violations.

In tandem with event organizers' efforts, Drupal seeks to have at least two dedicated individuals as Code of Conduct contacts for every event. These contacts, along with their provided contact information, are made accessible to attendees via event websites, emails, presentations, and other channels. By establishing such a responsive network, attendees are empowered to promptly report incidents and receive assistance when needed, promoting a sense of security and inclusivity.

As Drupal event organizers step up to enhance their events' safety measures, they are encouraged to facilitate the training for one or two of their members. The training equips participants with crucial "first responder" skills, enabling them to handle potential Code of Conduct issues adeptly. This commitment to incident response excellence is a collective endeavor, ensuring that Drupal's events, ranging from meetups to conventions, radiate a culture of respect and accountability.

Furthermore, Drupal event organizers are encouraged to highlight their events' inclusion of trained Code of Conduct contacts. By including this information on the Drupal.org community event form, organizers extend a proactive invitation for attendees to engage confidently, knowing that support is readily available.

Beyond the Drupal realm, these workshops serve as a bridge for knowledge exchange. Enforcers of Code of Conduct from other open-source events join in, fostering cross-pollination of insights and approaches. This collaborative effort amplifies the collective efficacy of incident response strategies across open-source communities.
