Drupal Netherlands Foundation Launches EU Sites Project for Enhanced Drupal Presence in Europe
The Drupal Netherlands Foundation and its dedicated team, led by board member Björn Brala, have successfully published the source code of drupal.nl on drupal.org. This collaborative effort with other local Drupal associations marks a milestone in sharing resources and expertise to enhance Drupal's presence in the European market.
For several years, Stichting Drupal Nederland (SDN) (Dutch name for the Drupal Netherlands Foundation) has been at the forefront of marketing Drupal in the Netherlands, including notable efforts such as a professional radio commercial on BNR radio. Supported by a robust network of enthusiastic partners, SDN has not only contributed to the growth of Drupal in the Netherlands but has also actively participated in the Network of European Drupal Associations, sharing experiences and knowledge.
The decision to share the source code of their website with other countries, under the banner of the "Local Association (EU Sites Project)" on drupal.org, reflects SDN's commitment to supporting and collaborating with other Drupal organizations. This move aligns with Drupal founder Dries Buytaert's recent emphasis on marketing, leading to the establishing of a dedicated marketing team within the Drupal Association.
The website, actively monitored for content and code, is a crucial tool for making Drupal accessible to potential users in the Dutch-speaking area. It provides a platform for Drupal organizations to showcase their expertise and connect with potential customers and employees. The recent transition of the site to Drupal 10 signifies a commitment to keeping Drupal technology current and relevant.
At DrupalCon Lille, Dries Buytaert proposed a common design for the websites of local Associations in Europe to enhance Drupal's professional image. Coincidentally, SDN was already working on this initiative. With input from board members of Associations throughout Europe, the project was officially launched by Björn Brala on October 31, allowing other Drupal organizations to swiftly and cost-effectively establish a modern Drupal site.
Stichting Drupal Nederland will take charge of updates and feed them into the primary codebase on drupal.org. Other countries are encouraged to take ownership of the project's development, potentially collaborating with other organizations. The aim is to foster a collaborative environment where bug fixes and advancements are shared among the Drupal community.
