The Drupal Association has announced a collaborative effort with Cloud-IAM to enhance Drupal.org’s user experience by implementing a secure, GDPR-compliant KeyCloak single sign-on (SSO) system. Cloud-IAM provides managed services with a strong service level agreement and adheres to open-source principles, aligning with the Drupal Association’s ethos.

This integration facilitates easier management for authentication across both new and legacy Drupal sites and introduces social login capabilities, streamlining the process for new users to contribute quickly. Additionally, the partnership is poised to allow Drupal.org users to access external community sites with their Drupal.org identity, potentially federating data back to the mother site.

This transition will utilize the OpenID Connect contrib module and maintain most user profile fields on Drupal.org, with core fields such as name and email address now editable through the Cloud-IAM interface. 

Migration details will be communicated through the #drupal_infrastructure channel on Drupal Slack and other Drupal social media channels. The association recognises the strategic collaboration and highlights Cloud-IAM’s commitment to privacy and regulatory compliance. It makes a strong case for its recommendation to Drupal agencies and site owners requiring managed identity and access management systems.
