Drupal 11 Development Progress: Updated System Requirements Announced
Drupal 11 development has entered a critical phase, with updates to its system requirements now underway in the development branch. Gábor Hojtsy has shared key insights on how to prepare core developers and inform the community about these changes.
Notably, an RFC was issued in mid-February to discontinue Windows support in production. However, other web server requirements remain unchanged.
Moving forward, Drupal 11 will mandate PHP 8.3, with older versions no longer supported. The minimum database requirements include MySQL 8.0, MariaDB 10.6, PostgreSQL 16, and SQLite 3.45. Composer 2.7.0 or newer will be essential, aligning with a security fix in February 2024.
The browser policy remains consistent, as Drupal has already dropped support for outdated versions. Expect dependencies on Symfony 7, PHPUnit 10, and jQuery 4, as efforts are underway to update to these versions. Drupal 10 will continue to receive support until mid-late 2026, bridging the transition to Drupal 12.
