How Is Drupal 8 Different From Drupal 9?

Drupal 9 is almost the same as Drupal 8.9, but an improved version and a version that is setting the tone for Drupal 10. There are no new features in Drupal 9, so the upgrade is also easy provided you are on D 8.9 . This is in start contrast to the Drupal 7 migrations whose vibrations are still resonating.

The major difference between Drupal 8 and 9 is
  • Removal of many of the deprecated code that was still there in Drupal 8
  • Versions of third parties that are still supported have been updated

The Place Blocks and Simple Test Modules that were deprecated have been removed from version 9. Support has been updated to Symfony 4.4 from Symfony 3.

So if the migration to Drupal 9 is considered equivalent to a minor upgrade from Drupal 8.9, why is it mandated? The answer lies in the fact that Drupal updates are now scheduled to fall into a pattern which makes it predictable and easier to plan for. A minor upgrade is expected every six months while a major migrate every two years. Drupal 9 is setting the stage for Drupal 10, which is to be automated, as last reported.
