What to Know About Drupal 11: New Features and Upgrade Timeline

Drupal 11, the latest iteration of the popular content management system, has been released, marking a pivotal step in the platform's evolution. While the initial update might seem modest, it lays crucial groundwork for future enhancements tied to the upcoming "Drupal Starshot" initiative, which promises significant features like Automatic Updates and Project Browser in subsequent minor releases. Notable changes in Drupal 11 include the introduction of the "Recipes" module, which simplifies the installation of pre-configured features, and the integration of the Workspaces and Navigation modules into the core. 

Additionally, the core has been streamlined by removing less-used modules such as Forum and Book, though they remain available as contributed modules. Despite the availability of Drupal 11, the necessity for immediate upgrades is mitigated by the continued support for Drupal 10 until at least 2026, offering flexibility for users to plan their transitions. Dan Moriarty, in an article published on Electric Citizen, advises considering an upgrade by mid-2025, especially for sites currently operating on older versions of Drupal.
