Drupal CMS: Updates on Starshot Tracks and New Recruitment Opportunities
Pamela Barone has provided updates on the progress of Drupal CMS version 1 and outlined plans for new work tracks to advance the platform further. With version 1 nearing completion, successful tracks like Project Browser and Workspaces as Content Moderation continue to drive improvements. The Project Browser, led by Leslie Glynn and Chris Wells, simplifies module discovery for site builders, while Workspaces as Content Moderation, supported by Tag1, integrates scalable content staging with the Experience Builder.
Additionally, the Telemetry track is being developed to collect real-world user data, and a track lead is being sought to oversee its ongoing implementation. Drupal has historically not included a formal telemetry system, but Drupal CMS presents an opportunity to explore and implement such a system while leveraging the insights it provides to enhance the product. A working group has been established to evaluate options for integrating telemetry into Drupal CMS, and an early proposal for its implementation has already been developed. Interested applicants can apply here.
The focus now shifts to recruiting leaders for five new tracks critical to the Starshot strategy. The Content Import/Migration track aims to simplify transitions from other platforms to Drupal, addressing diverse needs with potential solutions like structured data imports or site scraping tools. Contributors with innovative ideas can apply here.
The Tours track seeks to improve onboarding for new Drupal users through guided site tours built with the Tour module. This non-technical role focuses on user experience, content creation, and product design, ensuring consistency across the platform. Applications for this track can be submitted here.
To enhance Identity Management and Single Sign-On (SSO), Drupal is seeking a track lead to streamline authentication processes while maintaining flexibility for integration with various providers. Proposals for this track can be submitted here.
The Content Translation Tools track aims to enhance Drupal’s multilingual capabilities by streamlining translation workflows, incorporating AI-driven suggestions, and improving integration for global content creators. Contributors interested in this track can apply here.
Lastly, the Front-End Design Systems track focuses on creating modern, adaptable design frameworks that integrate with Drupal’s Experience Builder. The goal is to empower designers and developers while enabling marketers to execute brand-aligned campaigns efficiently. More information on this track, including timelines and how to apply, is available in the full brief.
While these tracks may not be included in the initial Drupal CMS release, development is expected to begin soon, with completion anticipated in 2025. Pamela encourages interested contributors to apply or join discussions on Slack to connect with track leads and the Drupal CMS leadership team.
