DrupalCon Europe Expands Sustainability Efforts for 2025
DrupalCon Europe continues to advance its sustainability efforts, building on key initiatives from previous years. Following notable progress at DrupalCon Barcelona 2024, organizers are preparing for DrupalCon Vienna 2025 with an even stronger focus on reducing environmental impact.
Sustainability measures at DrupalCon Barcelona 2024 reduced non-transport emissions by 24.3%, thanks to CCIB’s eco-friendly operations, including energy-efficient practices, sustainable catering, and near-zero landfill waste. However, the overall carbon footprint increased by 43%, primarily due to air travel, which accounted for 95.9% of total emissions. The per-attendee carbon footprint rose from 850 kgCO2e in 2023 to 1,448 kgCO2e in 2024, reflecting both increased travel impact and improved data accuracy.
Looking ahead, DrupalCon Vienna 2025 will prioritize venue sustainability, improved carbon data tracking, and greater engagement with attendees, suppliers, and sponsors to promote eco-conscious practices. The event will take place at the Austria Center Vienna, a venue recognized for its environmental initiatives.
Organizers encourage the Drupal community to contribute ideas and collaborate on sustainability efforts. Those interested can reach out at [email protected].
