DrupalSouth Melbourne 2025: The Pygmy Stack and Open-Source Collaboration
DrupalSouth Melbourne 2025, taking place from March 11–13 at ACMI and the Multicultural Hub, will host a session on "The Pygmy Stack: The Little Docker Helper Tool That Could". Led by Karl Hepworth, the talk will explore the history, redevelopment, and ongoing maintenance of Pygmy, a local development tool owned by amazee.io. The session will highlight how the project evolved through cross-agency collaboration, from its use by a customer to continued support from a competing agency, demonstrating the strength of open-source initiatives.
The presentation will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of Pygmy’s purpose, the motivations behind its redevelopment, and the complexities of maintaining it within a competitive landscape. Hepworth, a long-time Drupal community member with expertise in platform engineering and Kubernetes, will share insights from his 13-year involvement in Drupal. His discussion aims to offer valuable perspectives on open-source collaboration, agency dynamics, and the future of Pygmy.
