DrupalCamp NJ 2025: A Camp Where Learning Meets Collaboration!
Princeton University is set to host DrupalCamp NJ 2025 from March 13-15, bringing together web professionals, developers, and Drupal enthusiasts for three days of learning, networking, and open-source contribution. As one of the key regional events for the Drupal community, the camp offers training sessions, expert-led discussions, and an opportunity to contribute to the Drupal project.
A Platform for Learning and Growth
The event kicks off on Thursday, March 13, with hands-on training sessions covering a range of topics. Attendees can choose from full-day workshops such as Drupal CMS Preview by Mike Anello and Advanced Site Building with Drupal, including Drupal AI by Rod Martin. Additionally, half-day training on Navigating the New Google Analytics – GA4 for Drupal and Higher Ed Websites will be led by Ray Saltini and Mandee Englert.
The main conference day, Friday, March 14, will feature a packed schedule of sessions tailored for developers, designers, and content creators. Organizers have ensured a diverse lineup, aiming to provide valuable insights for everyone involved in web development.
Behind the Scenes of DrupalCamp NJ 2025
Organizing an event of this scale is no small feat. Sean Walsh, one of the key organizers, noted that the process involves countless small decisions, from designing promotional materials to curating the event’s branding.
“One thing I don’t think people realize is how many little decisions and streams of work are going on to make the event successful,”
Sean explained.
“Having an identity and brand to get behind is very important on a lot of fronts.”
Peter Wolanin highlighted the crucial role of institutional support in making the camp a reality.
“We have always had a key partner in the Web Development Services department at Princeton. Having a group within a company or university that actively uses Drupal can provide logistical and financial support.”
Michael Muzzie reflected on the evolution of the event’s visual identity.
“When we started in 2012, we had a complicated graphic identity for our website, badges, and signage. Over time, we embraced more minimalist design trends, which helped maintain our uniqueness while being manageable for our team.”
What Makes DrupalCamp NJ Special?
The location itself plays a significant role in shaping the identity of DrupalCamp NJ. Sean noted,
“Our venue at Princeton University has really set our camp’s identity, from the Tiger Druplicon logo to our ability to attract a diverse group of speakers and attendees.”
Michael emphasized the importance of showcasing Drupal’s growth.
“I hope a key takeaway for attendees is that Drupal is a vibrant platform with a viable ‘out-of-the-box’ experience, but still offers enormous potential for building powerful, data-driven websites.”
John Cloys echoed this sentiment, adding that the event balances technical learning with community engagement.
“DrupalCamp NJ 2025 stands out for its comprehensive approach to learning and collaboration. The event offers a rich blend of training sessions, expert talks, and hands-on contributions.”
Challenges and Takeaways
Organizing an event of this scale is not without hurdles. Peter shared a recent challenge where the team almost lost their on-campus reservation due to a scheduling conflict.
“We spent a week considering other possible spaces in a minor panic,”
he admitted. Despite the location or the number of people that turn up, John emphasized the importance of engagement within the Drupal community.
“The more you engage—whether by asking questions, contributing code, or networking—the more you gain in return. You don’t have to be an expert to contribute; every perspective strengthens the community.”
A Collaborative Future
Saturday, March 15, will wrap up the camp with a free day of contribution and collaboration, reinforcing Drupal’s strong community-driven ethos. As Sean put it,
“I hope attendees remember the camp as the moment they got excited about the future of Drupal. With several sessions on Drupal CMS and AI, there’s a lot to take away and implement.”
John summed up the event’s goal succinctly:
“A camp where learning meets collaboration—leveling up your skills and building a stronger web together.”
With an exciting lineup of sessions, expert speakers, and hands-on contribution opportunities, DrupalCamp NJ 2025 promises to be a landmark event for the Drupal community. Whether you're a seasoned developer or new to the platform, this gathering at Princeton University is a chance to learn, connect, and shape the future of Drupal.
The celebration begins in two days!
