IGES Enhances Internal Approval Workflows with Drupal 9 Migration
Kalamuna supported the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in upgrading its intranet to Drupal 9. The project focused on modernizing IGES’s internal mission request and reporting system, including a complex workflow involving approvals, notifications, and financial tracking. A critical enhancement was an "approval log" system within Drupal workflows, enabling detailed visibility into each step of the approval chain.
Multilingual capabilities were also prioritized, supporting both English and Japanese to accommodate IGES’s diverse user base. Kalamuna implemented user-centered notification systems using the Message stack, providing redundant alerts through on-screen messages and emails to reduce approval delays. Integration with IGES’s HR system via CSV feeds ensured up-to-date user data, and accounting staff were given tools to track expense submissions. Overall, the implementation emphasizes scalability, traceability, and usability for a globally collaborative nonprofit.
The project prioritized scalability and user feedback, with IGES reporting high staff satisfaction. However, the article lacks technical implementation specifics and does not provide a publication date or named author, which limits verifiability.
