PHP Foundation Seeks New Executive Director as Roman Pronskiy Prepares Departure

The PHP Foundation has opened its search for a new Executive Director, following the announcement that Roman Pronskiy will step down from the role in early 2026. Pronskiy, who helped found and lead the organization since its inception in 2021, will remain involved as JetBrains' representative on the Board of Directors. The transition marks a significant step in the foundation's ongoing growth and its work to support PHP as one of the world's most widely-used programming languages.

Under Pronskiy's leadership, the Foundation established a core developer team and strengthened collaboration across the PHP ecosystem. As his responsibilities at JetBrains expand, Pronskiy has opted to focus there while ensuring continuity during the leadership handover. A search committee comprising board members Sebastian Bergmann and Nils Adermann, alongside community representatives Lorna Jane Mitchell and Ben Ramsey, will oversee the selection process.

The Executive Director role is structured as a remote contractor position through the Open Source Collective, with a renewable one-year term. Compensation includes a base salary between $90,000 and $105,000 USD annually, plus a performance-based bonus of up to $65,000. The selected candidate will be responsible for strategy, operations, fundraising, communications, and community relations.

Key qualifications include open-source leadership experience, knowledge of the PHP ecosystem, strong project management skills, and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until December 15, 2025. Interested individuals should submit a cover letter, resume, and a 500–1000 word vision statement via the foundation's application form.
