Morpht Rebuilds Reef Knowledge System on GovCMS With Topic-Driven Navigation
Improving access to specialised environmental research resources became a central objective in Morpht’s rebuild of the Reef Knowledge System for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. The Drupal 10 and GovCMS SaaS project restructured the platform around topic-driven navigation and resource-discovery workflows designed for scientists, natural resource managers, and other highly specialised users seeking targeted information.
User research and analytics informed much of the platform redesign, including the creation of topic pages, a new Resource Hub, and filtering systems focused on themes and resource types. According to the case study, the rebuild also addressed challenges created by large volumes of externally hosted resources by simplifying navigation between internal and third-party content. Accessibility, design validation, and usability testing were significant parts of the implementation process, alongside support for embedded external data sources and iframes.
The project also integrated the Recombee recommendation engine to provide personalised content suggestions, such as “Top Picks” and “Trending Now,” based on user behaviour. Morpht built the platform using Drupal 10 and the Convivial GovCMS Bootstrap framework, combining Bootstrap 5 with GovCMS-compatible editorial tooling and accessibility-focused site-building patterns. The resulting rebuild was recognised as a runner-up in both Government and Corporate/DXP categories at the 2026 Splash Awards.
