Tech Leaders to Discuss Drupal’s Role in the AI Era at DrupalCamp England 2026
With AI now at the centre of digital strategy, DrupalCamp England arrives at the University of Salford this weekend with an expanded two-day programme. Saturday will offer a comprehensive schedule of curated sessions. On Sunday, the event continues with ‘Drupal in a Day’, Mentored Contribution, and a timely panel session: ‘Why Drupal remains a robust choice in today’s AI era’.
Designed for non-technical strategic decision-makers, the Sunday Q+A session features four leaders from a diverse set of tech backgrounds:
- Paul Johnson – Managing Director, UK, 1xINTERNET
- James Hall – Product Lead, Websites, Everyone TV
- Matt Summers-Sparks – Senior Digital Developer, The Children’s Society
- Jamie Abrahams – Co-founder, FreelyGive
The ‘Build vs Buy’ Divide
Attendees will hear practical, real-world insights spanning agency leadership, non-profits, and product management. The panel will explore why the community-backed, transparent, and open-source nature of Drupal provides a distinct security and innovation advantage over proprietary platforms. Actionable strategic insights will be shared to help leaders evaluate their own technology stacks and make smarter ‘Build vs Buy’ decisions.
I am most looking forward to helping organisations realise that Drupal is designed so AI can work within the system, rather than sitting on the edge of it. I will share examples of how customers are taking their first steps in realising the value of AI in augmenting teams and helping customers to innovate.
The Ethics of Innovation
Data sovereignty remains a primary concern for modern enterprises. Session chair James Hall, Product Lead at Everyone TV, noted that the conversation will extend beyond automation into the ethics of data.
AI is the biggest talking point of the moment, but data sovereignty is the critical foundation. Learning how Drupal helps safeguard that sovereignty is invaluable. I am excited to delve deep into these insights with Paul, Matt, and Jamie.
