Drupal Beginner Training Is Disappearing and the Community Is Worried
Beginner Drupal training is declining across parts of the ecosystem, according to Michael Anello, co-founder and vice president of DrupalEasy. In a blog post, Michael said DrupalEasy has sunset its 12-week Drupal Career Online programme after more than 15 years and moved to a private-only version called Drupal Foundations.
The post frames the decline as an ecosystem issue rather than a training-provider issue. Michael points to the increasing complexity of modern Drupal, the rise of AI tools as alternative learning paths, and the weak recruitment of new developers beyond existing Drupal spaces. He also cites reduced demand reported by Rod Martin, Addison Berry, Wayne Eaker, and Ashraf Abed, including fewer students, lower video engagement, and weaker interest in beginner-level classes.
Michael argues that Drupal’s technical progress, including Drupal CMS and the AI initiative, will not be enough if the community does not rebuild its entry points for new contributors. He identifies Drupal Open University, IXP, Promote Drupal, and outreach beyond Drupal-specific events as possible parts of a wider response.
