LocalGov Drupal Expands Community Fund-Backed Elections Project
Three UK councils have deployed the latest version of LocalGov Drupal Elections through development financed by the LocalGov Drupal Community Fund, according to a post published by Product Lead Will Callaghan. The deployments involved Democratic Services teams at Croydon, Newcastle and Walsall councils and were presented as part of a collaborative funding model used within the LocalGov Drupal ecosystem.
Callaghan explained that the Community Fund pools contributions from councils and Drupal suppliers to finance shared open source projects. Development begins once funding targets are met, after which the resulting code is released publicly. The model is being used for projects beyond content management systems, including Elections platforms, consultation systems and FOI tooling.
The Elections work referenced in the post involved contributors from Rohallion, Croydon Council, Cumberland Council, Walsall Council and the LocalGov Drupal core team. The article focuses primarily on governance and collaboration practices rather than technical implementation details, and it does not include deployment metrics or architectural documentation.
