Successful Pitch-burgh Initiative Delights DrupalCon Pittsburgh Attendees
The Drupal Association recently provided an update on the highly successful innovation initiative, Pitch-burgh, which took place during DrupalCon Pittsburgh last month. The event witnessed an impressive turnout, with 35 submissions showcasing innovative ideas and accompanied by informative videos. A panel of judges meticulously reviewed and voted on these submissions, resulting in the selection of seven finalists.
This is going to be the first of what I hope many more updates regarding the Pitchburgh initiative and the projects involved, states Alex Moreno in the opening statement.
One of the notable highlights of Pitch-burgh was the unexpected influx of funding during the Driesnote presentation itself. Lee Walker from Code Journeymen and Jonathan from Daggerhart Lab generously offered to fund AmyJune Hineline's project, 'Contributing and Mentoring the Mentor'. The enthusiastic support from the Drupal community demonstrated the collaborative spirit and dedication to empowering contributors within the ecosystem.
However, the most surprising turn of events unfolded after the conclusion of DrupalCon Pittsburgh. Matt Mullenweg, Co-Founder of WordPress, reached out to Dries, expressing excitement about the Pitch-burgh initiative and its connection to funding Gutenberg, a project born and nurtured within the WordPress community. To demonstrate his enthusiasm, Matt committed to fully funding the requested $20,000 for the initiative, further cementing the spirit of cross-platform collaboration and shared goals.
As part of the update, it was observed by the judges, Drupal Association leadership, and numerous conversations held during the conference that two of the projects selected as finalists share a common objective: enhancing and modernizing Drupal's editorial experience. This recognition highlights the collective focus and dedication to improving usability and user experience within the Drupal ecosystem.
