Risks of Staying on Drupal 7 After End-of-Life
In a recent blog post by Stella Power on Annertech's website, the looming end-of-life (EOL) for Drupal 7, scheduled for January 5, 2025, is explored, highlighting the significant risks of remaining on the outdated platform. Drupal 7, which has been a cornerstone for many websites over the past 14 years, will no longer receive updates, including critical security patches, from the Drupal community post-EOL. This means that any vulnerabilities could be exposed without prior notice, putting sites at heightened risk for data breaches, defacement, and other security issues.
Moreover, server software incompatibilities, compliance problems, and the lack of new features or support will further exacerbate the challenges of staying on Drupal 7. Website owners are urged to migrate to Drupal 11 or another CMS, rebuild their sites, or convert to static websites. Annertech also offers extended support for Drupal 7 sites until 2026, although continuing with an unsupported version is strongly discouraged due to the potential risks and liabilities involved.
