Palantir Preps EditTogether for Secure, Real-Time Drupal Collaboration

CHICAGO—Palantir.net announced Tuesday that EditTogether, a new free, open-source module designed for real-time, secure collaborative editing in Drupal, is on track for an upcoming public release despite a slowed development pace. Built on the Yjs framework and utilizing peer-to-peer WebRTC connections, EditTogether aims to enable multiple users to edit Drupal node fields simultaneously without transferring data to a third-party cloud.

“We had initially targeted a Q4 2024/Q1 2025 release, but the pace has slowed and our work continues on it as we are able,”

Hadassah Damien, Senior Strategist at Palantir wrote in a recent blog post. Originally sponsored by a client, the module’s development is now self-funded by Palantir.

EditTogether supports field-level collaboration for Drupal 10 and 11, focusing on privacy and data sovereignty.

“To ensure data privacy, content does not go into a third-party cloud,” the post explains. “Instead the module leverages STUN/TURN, signaling server microservices, and JavaScript so your data does not need to leave the browser for you to edit it together.”

According to the announcement, the module is “fully configurable to meet your privacy requirements” and designed to align with regulatory standards such as CCPA, GDPR, and FedRAMP.

Key enhancements for EditTogether’s minimum viable product include improved front-end and back-end integration, conflict resolution in edge-case scenarios, and more flexible microservice connections for users who prefer to manage their own infrastructure. Currently, seven fields are enabled for collaboration, and Palantir plans to expand that functionality to all Drupal fields prior to the official launch.

Palantir is seeking organizations willing to join an Early Access program or sponsor additional features to help accelerate final development and refine the user experience.

“Such early support is also an important indicator that there is sufficient commercial interest to sustain the ongoing development and module maintenance,”

the team wrote.

Looking ahead, Palantir developers will showcase EditTogether at Florida DrupalCamp and DrupalCon Atlanta. The team also intends to explore future integrations with Paragraphs, Layout Builder, and Experience Builder.

“We have heard an interest in creating views for users to review, comment, and suggest changes outside of the editor experience, which are features we expect to see developed after community release,”

the blog post noted.
