Prateek Jain Challenges the "DXP is Obsolete" Claims
The Drupal community is actively discussing the future of Digital Experience Platforms (DXPs) following a claim by Pantheon founder and CEO Josh Koenig that the DXP model is failing, declaring "RIP DXP." In response, Prateek Jain, Director of Digital Experience Services at Axelerant, argues that Josh’s perspective is a “one-sided narrative” that “misses the nuance of what's actually happening.” Jain contends that DXPs are not becoming obsolete but are instead shifting toward a
"composable mindset balancing seamless integration with flexibility."
Jain acknowledges that organizations increasingly favor composable solutions over monolithic platforms but insists that "DXP is fundamentally about integration and streamlining the digital experience." He cites Acquia, Adobe, and Optimizely as examples where integrated ecosystems thrive while still allowing businesses to use individual components independently. He emphasizes that
"the future isn't about discarding DXPs. It’s about redefining them," and sees Drupal as "the open foundation within a composable digital experience ecosystem."
A true open DXP, according to Jain, would enable organizations to switch and upgrade individual components without disrupting their technology stack, ensuring flexibility without sacrificing strong integrations. He recognizes that while some tools remain locked within proprietary ecosystems, the ideal approach is a balance between openness and seamless integration.
