Drupal Announces New Core Leadership and Strategy Development Update
The Drupal Association has announced a major update to its core leadership structure and revealed that a new strategy for Drupal core is in development. These changes aim to strengthen the platform's foundation and sharpen its future direction.
An updated Drupal core strategy document is currently being developed, with community feedback actively sought to help guide its evolution. Leaders emphasized that participation from the wider Drupal community will be critical in shaping the next phase of core development.
As part of these efforts, the team introduced the new "Drupal Core Leadership Team," a term replacing "Core committers." The change reflects a broader view of leadership beyond code commits, recognizing the many roles essential to maintaining and advancing Drupal core.
Four new members have joined the leadership team. Griffyn Heels, based in Australia and working with PreviousNext, has been facilitating initiatives like Bug Smash and Experience Builder and now steps into a provisional Team Facilitator role. From the recently retired Drupal 7 core team, Juraj Nemec of ActivIT in Slovakia and Drew Webber of Acquia in the UK join the modern core team as General Committers, bringing extensive experience without specific leadership mandates. To bolster frontend development, Pierre Dureau, owner of Beyris in France and long-time contributor to the https://www.drupal.org/about/core/blog/announcing-four-new-drupal-core-leaders-and-a-strategy-update-in-the-works, joins as a provisional Frontend Framework Manager, focusing on expanding and improving Drupal’s frontend component architecture.
These updates mark a significant moment for Drupal, reinforcing both leadership depth and strategic clarity as the project moves forward. Read more here.
