Drupal IXP Program Launches to Boost New Developer Onboarding and Contribution
Michael Anello shared a blog post on DrupalEasy, introducing the new Drupal IXP (Inexperienced Developer Program) initiative aimed at attracting fresh talent to the Drupal community. The program offers 250 contribution credits to organizations that hire developers with less than three months of paid Drupal experience and complete the program requirements. With support from the Drupal Association, a dedicated IXP hub has been launched on jobs.drupal.org to facilitate these new employment opportunities.
The program is designed to address a growing concern in the community: an aging developer base and a lack of new contributors, especially since modern Drupal's learning curve has increased. Participating organizations must meet specific criteria, including providing 160 hours of paid work and structured mentoring. Both the developer and the employer are expected to submit periodic reports to ensure accountability and track progress.
Michael emphasizes that IXP developers may be suitable for a range of tasks such as site building, quality assurance, and core/module updates, depending on their prior experience. The initiative is positioned not only to support new developers but also to help organizations ease into mentorship roles.
