Adaptive Builds Drupal Letter Tool for Mencap Accessibility Campaign
Accessible online letter generation is the focus of a Drupal-based “Write a Letter” tool developed by Adaptive for Mencap. The project replaces a static Easy Read Learning Disability Register document that previously required users to print and complete forms manually, a workflow the case study identifies as creating accessibility barriers and limiting campaign insight.
The system introduces a guided web workflow that allows users to generate, preview, download, or email PDF letters addressed to GP practices. According to the case study, the tool follows Easy Read accessibility principles through large typography, structured navigation, simplified instructions, and optional image uploads intended to help GP staff identify patients more easily. The workflow also stores referral-source information separately from the final letter, giving Mencap additional visibility into campaign engagement.
Adaptive describes the feature as a reusable Drupal framework rather than a single-purpose campaign tool. Multiple letter templates can share the same form and rendering logic, allowing additional advice and advocacy workflows to be added without rebuilding the underlying system. Administrative features include configurable placement within Drupal pages, reporting dashboards, reusable templates, and configurable surrounding content.
The case study also outlines accessibility-focused workflow design choices including step-by-step navigation, preview controls, Easy Read text sizing, and PDF generation that preserves formatting and layout consistency. While the article provides detailed workflow descriptions and administrative capabilities, it does not include implementation-level technical detail about Drupal architecture, contributed modules, or integration methods.
