Visual Debugger Module Simplifies Theme Development for Modern Drupal
In a DrupalEasy blog post, Michael Anello provides an in-depth look at the Visual Debugger module created by Marcos Hollanda. The module revives the functionality of the old Theme Developer module for modern Drupal versions. Designed to display template information directly within the user interface without delving into HTML, the module simplifies theme development.
Despite initial scepticism, Michael found the module to be intuitive and useful. Its basic functionality allows developers to see template files and possible overrides by clicking on any section of a page. Currently, in alpha status, the module shows promise with planned features like theme hook suggestions and caching information display. It is particularly beneficial for new Drupal theme developers or those who prefer a UI over HTML comments.
Michael intends to monitor the module’s progress, potentially incorporating it into the Drupal Career Online theming curriculum.
